Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Palleronia, named in honour of Norberto Palleroni, a pioneer in the use of molecular identification techniques in prokaryote taxonomy.

Etymology: L. gen. n. maris, of the sea; L. adj. comp. minor, smaller; N.L. gen. n. marisminoris, of the smaller sea, i.e. from el Mar Menor, a shallow area of sea highly sheltered from the Mediterranean sea on the south-eastern coast of Spain, from whence the type strain was isolated.
