Type species: ¤ Parasporobacterium paucivorans Lomans et al. 2004.
Etymology: Gr. prep. para, besides, next to; N.L. neut. n. Sporobacterium, name of a bacterial genus; N.L. neut. n. Parasporobacterium, a genus similar to Sporobacterium.
