Note: The Judicial Commission declined to give an opinion on the taxonomic position of strain ATCC 27377because that is a question of taxonomy rather than nomenclature (see: Judicial Opinion 61). Hereafter, the strain ATCC 27377has been assigned to a new genus, ¤ Pirella Schlesner and Hirsch 1984, as ¤ Pirella staleyi Schlesner and Hirsch 1984 [1]. However, the name Pirella is illegitimate because of precedence of the fungal genus Pirella [Rule 51b(4)]. Consequently, a new genus designation ¤ Pirellula Schlesner and Hirsch 1987 and a new species designation ¤ Pirellula staleyi (Schlesner and Hirsch 1984) Schlesner and Hirsch 1987 have been proposed by Schlesner and Hirsch 1987 [2].
