Etymology: L. n. pelagus, the sea; N.L. masc. n. bius (from Gr. masc. n. bios), life; N.L. masc. n. Pelagibius, sea life.
Valid publication: CHOI (D.H.), HWANG (C.Y.) and CHO (B.C.): Pelagibius litoralis gen. nov., sp. nov., a marine bacterium in the family Rhodospirillaceae isolated from coastal seawater. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 818-823.
