Type species: ¤ Pelotomaculum thermopropionicum Imachi et al. 2002.
Etymology: Gr. adj. pelos, dark-coloured, hence anaerobic mud; L. neut. n. tomaculum, sausage; N.L. neut. n. pelotomaculum, sausage-shaped prokaryotes living in anaerobic environments.
