Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) 29W = DSM 15103 = JCM 11663.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB086419.
Etymology: N.L. n. hydrogenum (from Gr. n. hudôr, water; and Gr. v. gennaô, to produce), hydrogen (that which produces water, so called because it forms water when exposed to oxygen); N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj. hydrogeniphila, hydrogen-loving, because growth depends on hydrogen.
