Etymology: L. fem. n. petra, rock, stone; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Petrimonas, stone monad.

Etymology: L. n. sulfur, sulfur; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. fem. adj. sulfuriphila, sulfur-loving, indicating that sulfur stimulates growth.
