Etymology: Gr. n. phuton, a plant; Gr. adj. monos, single, solitary; Gr. fem. n. spora, a seed, and in biology a spore; N.L. fem. n. Phytomonospora, pertaining to a spore-forming actinomycete originally isolated from plant tissues.
