Etymology: L. n. pigmentum, dye; Gr. n. phagos, eater, glutton; N.L. fem. n. Pigmentiphaga, eating dyes.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. daeguensis, of Daegu, Korea, from where the type strain was isolated.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. kullae, of Kulla, in honor of Hans G. Kulla, who initiated the work about the aerobic degradation of azo dyes by bacteria, which resulted in the isolation of strain K24.
