Etymology: L. n. piscis, fish; L. masc. n. bacillus, small rod; N.L. masc. n. Piscibacillus, a rod from fish.

Type strain: strain HS224 = CCM 7596 = DSM 21633 = JCM 15721 = LMG 24786.

Etymology: Gr. n. hals halos, salt; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. halophilus, salt-loving.
