Etymology: Gr. n. planes, a wanderer; N.L. neut. n. sporangium, sporangium, spore case; N.L. neut. n. Planosporangium, wandering sporangium, referring to the production of sporangia with motile spores.

Etymology: L. adj. flavus, yellow; N.L. neut. adj. griseum, grey; N.L. neut. adj. flavigriseum, yellowish grey, referring to the colour of substrate mycelium of the type strain.
