Type species: ¤ Plesiocystis pacifica Iizuka et al. 2003.
Etymology: Gr. adj. plesios, near, close, neighbouring; Gr. fem. n. kustis, bladder; N.L. fem. n. Plesiocystis, neighbour bladder (to imply the genus is phylogenetically clustered next to the genus Nannocystis on the dendrogram).
Valid publication: IIZUKA (T.), JOJIMA (Y.), FUDOU (R.), HIRAISHI (A.), AHN (J.W.) and YAMANAKA (S.): Plesiocystis pacifica gen. nov., sp. nov., a marine myxobacterium that contains dihydrogenated menaquinone, isolated from the Pacific coasts of Japan.
