Type genus: "Pleurocapsa".
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. "Pleurocapsa", type genus of the order; suff. -ales, ending denoting an order; N.L. fem. pl. n. Pleurocapsales, the "Pleurocapsa" order.

Note: The type genus "Pleurocapsa" does not appear on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names, and has not been validly published since 1 January 1980. Consequently, Pleurocapsales Cavalier-Smith 2002 is illegitimate.
