Type species: ¤ Pontimonas salivibrio Jang et al. 2013.
Etymology: L. n. pontus, the sea; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Pontimonas, a sea monad.

Pontimonas salivibrio Jang et al. 2013, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. n. sal salis, salt; N.L. n. vibrio, that which vibrates, and also a genus name of bacteria possessing a curved rod shape; N.L. masc. n. (nominative in apposition) salivibrio, vibrio-shaped organism from a saline environment.
