Prochlorothrix Burger-Wiersma et al. 1989, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Prochlorotrichaceae Burger-Wiersma et al. 1989).
Type species: ¤ Prochlorothrix hollandica Burger-Wiersma et al. 1989.
Etymology: Gr. adj. protos, first, primordial; Gr. adj. chlôros, green; Gr. fem. n. thrix, hair or thread; N.L. fem. n. Prochlorothrix, primordial green hair.
Valid publication: BURGER-WIERSMA (T.), STAL (L.J.) and MUR (L.R.): Prochlorothrix hollandica gen. nov., sp. nov., a filamentous oxygenic photoautrotophic procaryote containing chlorophylls a and b: assignment to Prochlorotrichaceae fam. nov. and order Prochlorales Florenzano, Balloni, and Materassi 1986, with emendation of the ordinal description.
