Type species: ¤ Propionicicella superfundia Bae et al. 2006.
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum propionicum, priopionic acid; L. fem. n. cella, a store-room and in biology a cell; N.L. fem. n. Propionicicella, a propionic acid producing cell.

Etymology: L. prep. super, above/on top; L. masc. n. fundus, land owned by someone; L. adjectival ending -ius -ia -ium, indicating the meaning of "belonging to"; N.L. fem. adj. superfundia, referring to land designated as an Environmental Protection Agency Superfund Site.
