Type species: ¤ Pyrolobus fumarii Blöchl et al. 1999.
Etymology: Gr. n. pur, fire; L. masc. n. lobus, lobe; N.L. masc. n. Pyrolobus, the “fire lobe” (the hyperthermophilic lobe).
