Rarobacter Yamamoto et al. 1988, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Rarobacteraceae Stackebrandt and Schumann 2000).
Type species: ¤ Rarobacter faecitabidus Yamamoto et al. 1988.
Etymology: L. adj. rarus, rare,extraordinary, remarkable, curious; N.L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. rarobacter, curious rod.
