Reichenbachia Nedashkovskaya et al. 2003, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Reichenbachia agariperforans Nedashkovskaya et al. 2003.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Reichenbachia, after Hans Reichenbach, a German microbiologist, who has made a great contribution to the taxonomy of bacteria belonging to the phylum CFB.
Valid publication: NEDASHKOVSKAYA (O.I.), SUZUKI (M.), VYSOTSKII (M.V.) and MIKHAILOV (V.V.): Reichenbachia agariperforans gen. nov., sp. nov., a novel marine bacterium in the phylum Cytophaga-Flavobacterium-Bacteroides. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2003, 53, 81-85.

→ ¤ Reichenbachiella Nedashkovskaya et al. 2005, gen. nov.
Note: The names Reichenbachia is illegitimate because Reichenbachia Nedashkovskaya et al. 2003 is a later homonym of Reichenbachia Sprengel 1823 (a plant belonging to the family Nyctaginaceae) and a later homonym of Reichenbachia Leach 1826 (an insect belonging to the family Staphylinidae). Consequently, a new genus designation ¤ Reichenbachiella has been proposed by Nedashkovskaya et al. 2005.

Reichenbachia agariperforans Nedashkovskaya et al. 2003, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) IFO (now NBRC) 16625 = JCM 11238 = KMM 3525.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB058919.
Etymology: Malayan n. agar, agar; N.L. n. agarum, agar (algal polysaccharide); L. part. adj. perforans, perforating (making holes); N.L. part. adj. agariperforans, making holes in agar, bacterium making deep hollows in agar.
