Etymology: Gr. n. rhodon, the rose; Gr. masc. n. blastos, bud shoot; N.L. masc. n. Rhodoblastus, the budding rose.

Etymology: N.L. n. acidum (from L. adj. acidus sour), an acid; N.L. adj. philus -a -um (from Gr. adj. philos -ê -on), friend, loving; N.L. masc. adj. acidophilus, acid-loving.
