Type species: ¤ Robiginitalea biformata Cho and Giovannoni 2004.
Etymology: L. fem. n. robigo -inis, rust; L. fem. n. talea, a slender staff, rod, stick; N.L. fem. n. Robiginitalea, a rust-coloured rod.

Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) HTCC2501 = ATCC BAA-864 = KCTC 12146.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: CP001712 (complete genome).
Etymology: L. fem. adj. biformata, doubleformed, two-shaped, pertaining to the different cell morphology in different growth phases.
