Type species: ¤ Roseinatronobacter thiooxidans Sorokin et al. 2000.

Etymology: L. adj. roseus, rose-colored, rosy; N.L. n. natron (arbitrarily derived from the Arabic n. natrun or natron) soda; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Roseinatronobacter, pink rod from soda lake.

Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; N.L. v. oxido (from Gr. adj. oxus, sour, acid), to oxidize; N.L. part. adj. thiooxidans, sulfur-oxidizing.
