Etymology: L. adj. ruber -bra -brum, red; L. fem. n. monas, monad, unit; N.L. fem. n. Rubrimonas, reddish monad.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. cliftonensis, pertaining to Lake Clifton, Australia, the source of the type strain.
