Rubritalea Scheuermayer et al. 2006, gen. nov. (Type genus of the family ¤ Rubritaleaceae Hedlund 2012).
Type species: ¤ Rubritalea marina Scheuermayer et al. 2006.
Etymology: L. adj. ruber -bra -brum, red; L. fem. n. talea, a rod, staff; N.L. fem. n. Rubritalea, a red-coloured rod.
Valid publication: SCHEUERMAYER (M.), GULDER (T.A.M.), BRINGMANN (G.) and HENTSCHEL (U.): Rubritalea marina gen. nov., sp. nov., a marine representative of the phylum 'Verrucomicrobia', isolated from a sponge (Porifera). Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2006, 56, 2119-2124.
Original article in IJSEM Online

Note: Strict application of the Rule 27(3) of the Bacteriological Code (1990 Revision) would mean that the name Rubritalea Scheuermayer et al. 2006 is not validly published because the type species of the genus is not cited in the paper by Scheuermayer et al. 2006. However, the genus when originally published included only one species, ¤ Rubritalea marina, which must be the type species [Rule 20(c)].
