Saprospira Gross 1911, genus. (Type genus of the family ¤ Saprospiraceae Krieg et al. 2012).
Type species: ¤ Saprospira grandis Gross 1911 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: Gr. adj. sapros, rotten, putrid; L. fem. n. spira, a coil, spire, spiral; N.L. fem. n. Saprospira, spiral associated with decaying matter.
