Type species: ¤ Scardovia inopinata (Crociani et al. 1996) Jian and Dong 2002.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Scardovia, named after Vittorio Scardovi, an Italian microbiologist who has made many contributions to our knowledge of bifidobacteria.
