Type species: ¤ Sediminimonas qiaohouensis Wang et al. 2009.
Etymology: L. n. sedimen -inis, sediment; L. fem. n. monas, monad unit; N.L. fem. n. Sediminimonas, monad isolated from sediment.

Etymology: N.L. fem. adj. qiaohouensis, from the Qiaohou salt mine, where the type strain was isolated.
