Seleniivibrio Rauschenbach et al. 2013, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Seleniivibrio woodruffii Rauschenbach et al. 2013.
Etymology: N.L. n. selenium, selenium; N.L. masc. n. vibrio, that which vibrates, and also a genus name of bacteria possessing a curved rod shape (Vibrio); N.L. masc. n. Seleniivibrio, a vibrio that reduces selenate.

Seleniivibrio woodruffii Rauschenbach et al. 2013, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) S4=DSM 24984=ATCC BAA-2290.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: JN107635.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. woodruffii, of Woodruff, named in honour of H. Boyd Woodruff, a Rutgers University alumnus, for his lifetime dedicated to the advancement of science and his contributions to soil and microbiology and the discovery of natural products important to human and animal health and agriculture.
