Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Seliberia, named for the Russian microbiologist, Professor G.L. Seliber.

Note: The 16S rRNA gene sequence of the type strain shows an unexpected affiliation with the family ¤ Bradyrhizobiaceae (100% similarity against ¤ Bradyrhizobium betae).
