Type genus: ¤ Sphingomonas Yabuuchi et al. 1990.
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Sphingomonas, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Sphingomonadaceae, the Sphingomonas family.
