Staleya Labrenz et al. 2000, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Staleya guttiformis Labrenz et al. 2000.
Recommended three-letter abbreviation: Stl. (see the file ¤ "Three-letter code for abbreviations of generic names").
Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Staleya, named after the American microbiologist J.T. Staley in recognition of his work on budding and appendaged bacteria and his contributions to polar microbiology.

¤ Sulfitobacter Sorokin 1996.

Note: Yoon et al. 2007 propose to transfer ¤ Staleya guttiformis Labrenz et al. 2000 (the type species of the genus Staleya) to the genus ¤ Sulfitobacter as ¤ Sulfitobacter guttiformis (Labrenz et al. 2000) Yoon et al. 2007, comb. nov. According to Rule 37a, bacteriologists adhering to this proposal must change the name Staleya to ¤ Sulfitobacter.
