Etymology: N.L. fem. n. Stappia, honoring Stapp, a Belgian microbiologist for his contribution to the taxonomy of marine species of Agrobacterium.

Note: The strain IAM 12614 = ATCC 25650= B1 = NCIMB 2208 was formerly labeled as "Agrobacterium aggregatum" [1], but it was regarded as a synonym of ¤ Agrobacterium stellulatum by Rüger and Höfle 1992 [2].
