Etymology: L. fem. n. Stella, a star, to denote star-shaped morphology of cells.

Etymology: L. n. humus, soil, earth; L. masc. suff. -osus -a -um, suffix used with the sense of full of, prone to; N.L. fem. adj. humosa, intended to mean pertaining to soil or earth.

Etymology: L. adj. vacuus, empty, void; L. adj. latus, broad, wide; N.L. fem. adj. vacuolata, vacuolate (large areas in cytoplasm appear empty due to gas vesicle formation).
