Etymology: L. pref. sub, below; L. neut. n. saxum, stone; N.L. masc. n. bacter, rod; N.L. masc. n. Subsaxibacter, bacterial rod living below stone.

Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. broadyi, of Broady, named in honour of P.A. Broady, Antarctic microbiologist from New Zealand who pioneered the study of many Antarctic terrestrial biomes.
