Etymology: L. pref. sub, below; L. neut. n. saxum, stone; N.L. neut. n. microbium, microbe; N.L. neut. n. Subsaximicrobium, microbe living below stone.

Etymology: L. neut. n. saxum, stone; L. masc. n. inquilinus, the denizen; N.L. masc. n. saxinquilinus, the denizen of stone.
