Etymology: N.L. n. succinas -atis, succinate; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Succinatimonas, succinate-(producing) monad.

Succinatimonas hippei Morotomi et al. 2010, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) YIT 12066 = DSM 22608 = JCM 16073.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB490810.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. hippei, of Hippe, named after Dr Hans Hippe for his contribution to bacteriology, especially to the classification of the family Succinivibrionaceae.
