Type species: ¤ Succinimonas amylolytica Bryant et al. 1958 (Approved Lists 1980).
Etymology: N.L. n. acidum succinicum, succinic acid; L. fem. n. monas, a unit, monad; N.L. fem. n. Succinimonas, succinic acid monad.

Etymology: Gr. n. amulon, starch; N.L. fem. adj. lytica (from Gr. fem. adj. lutikê), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. amylolytica, starch dissolving.
