Etymology: Gr. prep. sun in company with, together with; Gr. n. trophos feeder, rearer, one who feeds; L. n. acetum, vinegar; L. masc. suff. -icus, suffix used with the sense of pertaining to; N.L. masc. n. Syntrophaceticus syntrophic acetate feeder.

Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: EU386162.
Etymology: N.L. gen. masc. n. schinkii, of Schink, named after Prof. bernhard Schink, to acknowledge his work on syntrophy.
