Type species: ¤ Syntrophobotulus glycolicus Friedrich et al. 1996.
Etymology: Gr. adj. suntrophos, having grown up with one; L. masc. n. botulus, sausage; N.L. masc. n. Syntrophobotulus, a syntrophic, sausage-like bacterium.
Valid publication: FRIEDRICH (M.), SPRINGER (N.), LUDWIG (W.) and SCHINK (B.): Phylogenetic positions of Desulfofustis glycolicus gen. nov., sp. nov., and Syntrophobotulus glycolicus gen. nov., sp. nov., two new strict anaerobes growing with glycolic acid. Etymology: N.L. n. acidum glycolicum, glycolic acid; N.L. masc. adj. glycolicus, referring to glycolic acid, the key substrate of this species.
