Telluria Bowman et al. 1993, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Telluria mixta (Bowman et al. 1989) Bowman et al. 1993.
Etymology: L. fem. n. tellus -uris, the ground, land, earth and also a Roman goddess of the earth (Tellus); N.L. fem. n. Telluria, a bacterium isolated from the earth.

Telluria chitinolytica Bowman et al. 1993, sp. nov.
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) 20M = ACM 3522 = CIP 104069 = CNCM I-804.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: X65590.
Etymology: N.L. n. chitinum, chitin, a polysaccharide; N.L. adj. lyticus -a -um (from Gr. adj. lutikos -ê -on), able to loosen, able to dissolve; N.L. fem. adj. chitinolytica, dissolving chitin.

Etymology: L. fem. part. adj. mixta (from L. v. misceo), mixed, referring to mixed flagellation.
