Type species: ¤ Tenuibacillus multivorans Ren and Zhou 2005.
Etymology: L. adj. tenuis, slender, fine, thin; L. masc. n. bacillus, a small staff, a wand; N.L. masc. n. Tenuibacillus, a slender rod.

Etymology: L. adj. multus, many; L. part. adj. vorans, devouring; N.L. part. adj. multivorans, devouring numerous kinds of substrates.
