Etymology: N.L. fem. pl. n. Teredinidae, a family of wood-boring bivalve molluscs (shipworms); N.L. masc. n. bacter, a staff or rod; N.L. masc. n. Teredinibacter, a rod isolated from members of the family Teredinidae.
