Type species: ¤ Terracoccus luteus Prauser et al. 1997.
Etymology: L. fem. n. terra, soil; N.L. masc. n. coccus (from Gr. masc. n. kokkos), a grain, seed; N.L. masc. n. Terracoccus, coccus isolated from soil.
Valid publication: PRAUSER (H.), SCHUMANN (P.), RAINEY (F.A.), KROPPENSTEDT (R.M.) and STACKEBRANDT (E.): Terracoccus luteus gen. nov., sp. nov., an LL-diaminopimelic acid-containing coccoid actinomycete from soil. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1997, 47, 1218-1224.
