Thermocladium Itoh et al. 1998, gen. nov.
Type species: ¤ Thermocladium modestius Itoh et al. 1998.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; Gr. dim. neut. n. kladion, twig or shoot; N.L. neut. n. Thermocladium, a hot twig, indicating branching cells in a hot environment.
Valid publication: ITOH (T.), SUZUKI (K.) and NAKASE (T.): Thermocladium modestius gen. nov., sp. nov., a new genus of rod-shaped, extremely thermophilic crenarchaeote. Int. J. Syst. Bacteriol., 1998, 48, 879-887.

Thermocladium modestius Itoh et al. 1998, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. comp. neut. adj. modestius, referring to relatively modest temperature growth range.
