Type genus: ¤ Thermococcus Zillig 1983.
Etymology: N.L. masc. n. Thermococcus, type genus of the family; L. suff. -aceae, ending to denote a family; N.L. fem. pl. n. Thermococcus, the Thermococcaceae family.
