Type species: ¤ Thermosulfidibacter takaii Nunoura et al. 2008.
Etymology: Gr. fem. n. thermê, heat; N.L. n. sulfidum, sulfide; L. masc. n. bacter, a rod; N.L. masc. n. Thermosulfidibacter, a thermophilic, sulfide-producing, rod-shaped bacterium.

Thermosulfidibacter takaii Nunoura et al. 2008, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)
Type strain: (see also Global Catalogue of Microorganisms) ABI70S6 = DSM 17441 = JCM 13301.
Sequence accession no. (16S rRNA gene) for the type strain: AB282756.
Etymology: N.L. gen. n. takaii, of Takai, named after Dr Ken Takai, a microbiologist who has devoted himself to the study of terrestrial and deep-sea hydrothermal microbial ecosystems and chemolithoautotrophs present in those environments.
