Type species: ¤ Thermotalea metallivorans Ogg and Patel 2009.
Etymology: Gr. adj. thermos, hot; L. fem. n. talea, a slender staff, rod; N.L. fem. n. Thermotalea, a rod-shaped thermophile.
Valid publication: OGG (C.D.) and PATEL (B.K.C.): Thermotalea metallivorans gen. nov., sp. nov., a thermophilic, anaerobic bacterium from the Great Artesian Basin of Australia aquifer. Int. J. Syst. Evol. Microbiol., 2009, 59, 964-971.

Thermotalea metallivorans Ogg and Patel 2009, sp. nov. (Type species of the genus.)

Etymology: L. n. metallum, metal; L. v. vorare, to devour; N.L. part. adj. metallivorans, metal-devouring.
