Type species: ¤ Thiolamprovum pedioforme (Eichler and Pfennig 1987) Guyoneaud et al. 1998.

Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; Gr. adj. lampros, bright, brilliant; L. neut. n. ovum, egg; N.L. neut. n. Thiolamprovum, bright egg with sulfur.

Basonym: ¤ Amoebobacter pedioformis Eichler and Pfennig 1987.
Etymology: Gr. n. pedion, a plain, a flat area; L. adj. suffix -formis -is -e (from L. n. forma, figure, shape, appearance), -like, in the shape of; N.L. neut. adj. pedioforme, flat shaped.
