Note: In the paper by Moreira and Amils 1997, Thiomonas cuprina is cited as Thiomonas cuprina (Huber and Stetter) Moreira and Amils 1997, comb. nov. (basonym: "Thiobacillus cuprinus" Huber and Stetter 1990). However, the name "Thiobacillus cuprinus" has never been validly published. Consequently, the original proposal Thiomonas cuprina comb. nov. is changed to Thiomonas cuprina sp. nov.

Note: The transfer of Thiobacillus delicatus (ex Mizoguchi et al. 1976) Katayama-Fujimura et al. 1984 to the genus Thiomonas Moreira and Amils 1997 as a distinct species, Thiomonas delicata (Katayama-Fujimura et al. 1984) Kelly and Wood 2006, is confirmed by its morphological and physiological properties, DNA-DNA hybridization, and the grouping of its 16S rRNA gene sequence with those of other species of the genus.
