Etymology: Gr. n. theion (Latin transliteration thium), sulfur; L neut n profundum, depth abyss; N.L. neut. n. Thioprofundum, sulfur oxidizer from deep sea.

Etymology: L. neut. adj. hispidum, bristly.

Etymology: Gr. n. lithos stone; N.L. neut. adj. trophicum (from Gr. neut. adj. trophikon) nursing, tending or feeding; N.L. neut. adj. lithotrophicum lithotrophic, referring to lithotrophic metabolism of the species.
